Main purpose of the meeting: Montreux 2024 rehearsal
LPC minutes 5th December
Montreux Rehearsal (Federico Alessio)
Comments on the details of the slides were implemented and are not minuted. Physics comments referring to next year are minuted.
(Andrea Ferrero) The value for leveling in ALICE should be 8.7e30 cm-2 s-1 in pp.
(Roderik Bruce) Is there an equivalent number for LHCb before-which they will not move to p-Pb.
(Andrea Ferrero, Catrin Bernius, Chris Young) It says that the ion targets are recorded rather than delivered for ATLAS & CMS. Is this correct? ATLAS would like to move to recorded as there were some difficulties in the triggering system for PbPb. These aren't targets for the LHC but rather at what point the experiments want to switch. LHC targets will be on delivered luminosities. They will be based on machine parameters and assumed stable beam fractions. ATLAS & CMS are saying that they don't want to switch until their recorded luminosity reaches a certain level. It was pointed out that this is far beyond what was foreseen in PbPb for Run 3.
(Roderik Bruce, Catrin Bernius) What is meant by the ZDC comment on the changing crossing angle. The point is that ZDC needs to know the crossing angle prior to the technical stop, ie. it can't change if there is an MD to reduce the crossing angle which is successful half way through the run. This feeds in to the risk of changing from the crossing angles used this year. There is a possibility of crossing angle anti-leveling ie. reducing it as the intensity drops. This will need to be checked with the ZDC team.
