LPC meeting summary 16-01-2023 - final |
![]() |
Main purpose of the meeting: This meeting was dedicated to the draft presentations on 2022 experiment feedback and 2023 run expectations and wishes in view of the 2023 Chamonix Workshop.
Introduction
- preference for high beta run in July
* will need to foresee some tests for high beta* run
including crystal collimation for 6km run
- preference for top energy at HI
* Roderik: will have some uncertainty due to uncertainty on 10 Hz
losses and new crystal collimation performance as well
as extrapolation for quenches
* presentation from Roderik in LPC after Chamonix
- to decide when emulsion exchanges take place after TS1
* Richard: will gain confidence in recostruction and how much lumi
is maximum - waiting for reco of second emulsion set
- ATLAS BCM dumps at high intensity appears to be consistent with UFOs
* ATLAS not keen on raising threshold
- next meeting on February 6th
2022:
- ALICE plot to be updated end of the week
2023:
- during warm-up, both vacuum and safety system failed
pressure differential much higher than allowed
- see bulging on VELO RF foil - how to fix?
- no leak and no damage to module
- SND shielding in planning - installation second half of February
- LHCb will be running at different pile-up levels through the year
(going up)
- slide 14: "total" cross section, not just "inelastic".
very high beta mostly for rho
september as backup
- slide 15: Roderik would like a few shifts earlier for optics setup
Valerie: vdM sessions for ion and pp-ref runs
- slide 16: need caveat for optimal length of slip-stacked beams
energy: ALICE: prefer higher energy, but not at cost running time
- slide 17: for p-He need VELO at least partially closed
- slide 19: backup slide for cool-down required from RP
Stephane: developing new optics for 24/25 with opposite triplet
polarity in IP1/5 to gain a lot of triplet lifetime
requires horizontal crossing in IP1 and vertical
crossing in IP5
Feedback:
ALICE:
- new RC Andrea Ferrero
- massi file problem * to be checked *
- low intensity run was important for detector commissioning
- ALICE can also turn off magnets also for MDs
CMS:
- ECAL repair done
- mu=60 is minimum target - evaluating if 65 possible, 70 is disfavoured
ATLAS:
- not sure if mu limit will known by chamonix, but expect at least input
from physics side
